Còig, one of Atlantic Canada's premiere traditional groups, is an ensemble of East Coast musicians. In one explosive coming together, what was once solo acts on stage has amalgamated into one electrifying super group, picked as Penguin Eggs magazine’s 2014 #1 New Discovery internationally. With driving tunes, haunting songs, and infectious energy, Còig is an unparalleled musical force.

"...Every number is convincing and compellingly delivered. This group's ability to back songs on piano, fiddles, cello, guitars and more gives them enormous scope, and keeps the surprises coming throughout Rove. Slow reels and strathspeys, smooth fiddle and staccato banjo, plenty of their own material as well as the best of three centuries of tradition: there seems to be no end to Còig's talents, and I'm sure their story will continue well beyond this outstanding recording."

Peter Gabriel song “Solsbury Hill"

Here’s the next video from our studio sessions for Rove. This time for one of our favourite tracks on the record - we had a blast arranging this amazing Peter Gabriel song “Solsbury Hill". Cheers again to our friends Jenni Welsh and Dave Gunning for making it happen. And hugs to all of you for the incredible support of Rove!

New album time!

Hi folks!

We're so insanely excited to say that we have a brand spankin' new album available! It's called Rove, and we're so pumped to have new tunes and songs to share with everyone this coming summer. We recorded the whole thing at the Wee House of Music in Lyon's Brook, Nova Scotia, with our great friend Dave Gunning over the first half of 2017. Head to the Music page to get a download or a hard copy of the record, and come out and join us at our upcoming CD release shows! They kick off June 14th in PEI at the Vernon River Community Centre (as part of Festival of Small Halls), and continue in Judique at the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre on June 27th, and Halifax at The Carleton Music Bar & Grill on June 29th. Have a gander at the Shows page to see where else we'll be heading this summer.

We hope you can come out to help us celebrate, and we hope you enjoy the new music!

Catch you on the road this summer :)

Thank you Music Nova Scotia!

We had a fantastic time in Truro this past weekend for Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week! We showcased at the Split Crow, and had the great fortunate to hear so many awesome Nova Scotian artists. And our weekend wrapped on a very high note when Five took home the award for Traditional/Roots Recording of the Year! This is our very first award as a band, and we owe huge thanks to Music Nova Scotia and all the members who voted for us, and all of YOU for all your support and kind words about the album. We've certainly had a wicked few months since it was released. And we're off to the Canadian Folk Music awards in Ottawa in a couple of weeks, where we're nominated for two awards, and will be doing a showcase as well. Hope to see you on the road! :)

Watching the mailbox....

We're almost there! We've spent the last few weeks wrapping up the final master with our brilliant engineer, Dave Gunning. Marvellous Margie Beaton has been busy making the artwork look fabulous. The brand new debut CD's will be arriving in June, and we couldn't be more excited! A few months of hard work has produced about 70 minutes of music we're pretty proud of, and we are really looking forward to start doing our release shows around the Maritimes. This summer we'll be hitting the road,  traveling across Canada to Salmon Arm B.C., down into Maine and New Hampshire, Ottawa, Ontario, and all points in between. After you've checked out the Pre-sale on the Store page, check out the Shows page to find us near you.

Còig Band Record

Hello folks,

Thanks for checking in! We're all busy with our various solo projects and sidework, but we'll be headed in for Coig rehearsals in December. We plan to record in January/February 2014 and have a full-on BAND record to have at next year's concerts and festivals. This is due to the support we've had from fans all over - from Shetland to the United States and Canada. We're pretty overwhelmed at the support the crowds have given us as solo acts, and as the 5-piece band. A Coig record is on the way because you've asked for it!

Check back often for updates on the recording, and keep your eye on the calendar as well. We've started planning for 2014 and will have some exciting news to share about where we'll be travelling next year!

"An amazingly talented group of musicians from the musical island of Cape Breton.
Còig were an outstanding act at Shetland Folk Festival 2013. A Band NOT to be missed!"
- Davie Henderson, Director, Shetland Folk Festival
“ Còig shows so much respect for tradition, yet they bring it forward with amazing drive, and make it come alive for today's generation.”
- Phill McIntyre, New England Celtic Arts
